Ravel Morrison – The Manchester United talent that didn’t make it

Ravel Morrison, the ex Manchester United talent that is now playing his football at Birmingham City after a troubled career not helped by the player. Ravel Morrision was the star player of the 20111 youth cup win which included the likes of Micheal Keane, Tyler Blackett, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Jesse Lingard, Paull Pogba and Will Keane. Ravel scored a brace in the 2nd leg of the final against Shefield Wednesday at Old Trafford which ended up finishing the compotion with 6 goals from midfield.

Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t stop praising Ravel. Some coaches said he was one of the best players to come to through the academy. Even Rio Ferndanand though he was the finest young talent he saw at United. Warren Joyce (former Manchester United reserve team coach) said that the differnce bettween Pogba and Morrison was that Pogba strived to be the best, where as Morrison didn’t.

Sir Alex said “Ravel Morrison might be the saddest case. He possessed as much natural talent as any youngster we ever signed, but kept getting into trouble. It was very painful to sell him to West Ham in 2012 because he could have been a fantastic player. But, over a period of years, the problems off the pitch continued to escalate and we had little option but to cut the cord.”

Ravel Morrison had fantastic ball control and dribbling ability which not even Paul Pogba could match. He was faster to the ball when he wanted to. He had a fantastic footballing brain. His attitude let him down big time. After his time at United he was sold to West Ham for a feel believed to be around about 650K. Sir Alex belived that him leavibg Manchester would be best for his career and attitude. It didn’t help when he was pictured having christms dinner at home when the rest of the team were preparing for their boxing day game.

After West Ham Ravel went to Lazio in Italy on a free. Unfortianylu hia attitude didn’t improve their either. Ravel refussed to learn the lnguage and couldnt be bothered to turn up to traing. This lead to his Lazio contractt being terminated. Warren Joyce offered Ravel to train for Wigan but decided against signing because he was too unfit so he decied to move to QPR instead. At QPR he played 5 matches only starting 1. Ravel is now at Birmingham City after Harry Redknapp called him up and offered him a pay when you play contract which woukd hopefully kickstart his career in the right direction.

But at the age of 24 he coud still reach his potential that the talented coaches have predicted. Last summer Paul Pogba went for £89 million, imagine what Ravel Morrison could have been worth if his attitude was correct and he wanted to become a Manchester United footballer.
